Okanagan Special
On June 4, 1994, CN’s Okanagan Division ran a National Transportation Week Special to promote rail freight in the Okanagan valley. We borrowed a couple of coaches from Rocky Mountain Railtours, used both a CN and CP caboose (being that the Okanagan was a joint facility) and added a number of freight cars to indicate the typical traffic that was being handled out of the Okanagan at the time. Freight cars consisted of several center beams loaded with lumber, a couple of cars of poles from the Lumby Sub. and a flatcar with army trucks destined for Camspur from the Western Star plant in Kelowna. We entrained passengers at the old CP station in Vernon, and detrained at the old CN station in Kelowna. Fun day, and very popular with all of our rail freight customers and their families in the Okanagan at the time. Attached are a few pictures of the event.
